Participatory Design in Digital Fabrication

Involving Stakeholders in Learning with Digital Fabrication

The workshop aims to bring together researchers, teachers and practicipants to discuss participatory design in digital fabrication in schools. The workshop participants are to share experiences on involving stakeholders in order to gain interest for and increase learning in digital fabrication in an educational setting. Researchers, practitioners, educators and designers from different disciplines involved and interested in participatory design in digital fabrication, both practically and methodology wise, are welcome. We will consider the scope of issues that might arise by asking workshop participants to draw on their individual experiences to present a case study, inspiration or approach relating to involving stakeholders in digital fabrication. We invite the submission of short 2-4 page informal position papers offering perspectives on the workshop topics.

Facilitators:

Tilde Bekker is an Associate Professor in design research on playful interactions in the department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology. She has a Masters and PhD in Industrial Design (from Delft University of Technology). She leads and participates in research projects that examine how to design for social and physical play. Her main research interests are designing for playful interaction, and designing products for children and older adults. She has over 75 publications in international, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She was co-editor of special issues on interaction design and children and on designing for social and physical play. She served as Co- chair of “Interaction Design and Children” IDC 2002 (1st event of a series).

Eva Eriksson a PhD in Interaction design at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) is a lecturer, with a background in interaction design. Eva is currently participating in several research projects, and is co-editor of journals focused on interaction design and children, She has ten years of experience from developing design methods, services and interactive installations for designing technology for children. Eva is one of the founders of Gothenburg Working Group for Interaction Design and Children, IDAC.
