Information for Authors

Thank you for participating in FabLearn Europe / MakeEd 2021!

Important: At least one author must be registered to the conference and present the paper!

Full papers:

  • There are 3 paper sessions of 60 minutes (see schedule) held via Zoom.
  • In each session, 3 papers are being presented live by the authors. Each presentation is 15 minutes (sharp!).
  • The author screen shares his/her Powerpoint slides and speaks live to the audience.
  • Please login to Zoom with your full name, do not use a nickname.
  • The camera of the presenting author must be always on.
  • After the 3 papers have been presented, there is a final 15 minutes panel discussion with all 3 authors hosted by the session chair.
  • Please rehearse your presentation on Zoom (setup screen share etc.) and test your microphone and camera. Please use either a headset or a conference quality external microphone.
  • If you want to make your slides available to the audience, upload them prior to the conference (you received an email with the link).
  • If you are not familiar with Zoom, we offer to test your setup beforehand. Please get in touch with us.

Work-in-progress papers (posters) and demos:

  • There are 2 combined poster and demo sessions of 60 minutes each (see schedule) held first via Zoom, then on the virtual campus.
  • The posters and demos are being divided into two groups. Each author will present his/her work in a 3 minute (sharp!) pitch during one of the two sessions (see schedule which session you’re in). You can use 1-2 Powerpoint slides. This happens live on Zoom.
  • Please login to Zoom with your full name, do not use a nickname.
  • The camera of the presenting author must be always on.
  • When all pitches are finished, the audience proceeds to the virtual campus, where you will “stand” virtually next to your poster or demo.
  • The conference participants can walk around on the virtual campus and will be able to speak to you when approaching your poster/demo area, just as it would be in a physical conference!
  • You will stand next to your poster/demo during both poster and demo sessions, such that the conference participants get the chance to see everything. Your pitch only happens in one of the two sessions.
  • Demos: you can show a video, poster or make a live demo through your webcam.
  • Please upload your 1-2 pitch slides (Powerpoint), and poster (pdf), or demo (video) until May 30 2021. (you received an email with the link).
  • Please rehearse your presentation on Zoom (setup screen share etc.) and test your microphone and camera. Please use either a headset or a conference quality external microphone.
  • If you are not familiar with Zoom, we offer to test your setup beforehand. Please get in touch with us.

Workshops:

  • There are 3 workshops that run in parallel on Wednesday, June 2nd from 13:00-14:30/15:00.
  • The workshops are being held via Zoom. We will establish the Zoom session, but we will assign you as co-host so you have full Zoom-control over your workshop.
  • Please login to Zoom with your full name, do not use a nickname.
  • During the “welcome by the host session” from 10:00-10:15 on Wednesday, we will shorty present the workshops. We will give you the opportunity to say a few sentences about your workshop. You don’t need to prepare a slide.
  • Conference participants can freely decide which workshop to attend during the conference. If you wish a prior registration or a limited number of participants, please let us know.
  • If you want to use collaborative white boards, distribute files etc. for your workshop, you need to set this up by yourself. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Please rehearse your workshop on Zoom (setup screen share etc.) and test your microphone and camera. Please use either a headset or a conference quality external microphone.
  • If you are not familiar with Zoom, we offer to test your setup beforehand. Please get in touch with us.
